HISTORY OF THE SILVER IMAGE GALLERY
Photography Gallery 1973–1993
The Silver Image Gallery was owned and directed by Dan Fear for twenty years. This page provides an archive and history of the gallery, its exhibitions, and the many artists who were featured during its two decades of operation.
Many people contributed to the success of the gallery, including Paul Horst, Rodney Stuart, Andy Osteheimer, Claudia Bach, Charles Cowles, Adrienne Salinger, Deborah Paine, Courtney Coolidge, Madeleine Hill, and Jon Petrie. Feedback and ideas from many artists and photographers also played an important role, especially Marsha and Michael Burns, whose support and involvement were invaluable in the early years.
All of the above deserve special recognition for helping shape the spirit and reputation of The Silver Image Gallery. Thank you for everything you did, and for the support provided by the many others who also contributed and worked at the gallery.
Below are a couple of images of the gallery and a full listing of all exhibitions.

IRVING PENN
Forty Print Retrospective
September 27 – October 29, 1978
Forty-five print retrospective. Selections were made from each body of his work. This
was a very expensive exhibit to produce because each piece had to be custom framed.
Because of the tremendous costs, I made the decision to charge a $1.00 admission fee.
Many people were stunned at being asked for a small fee just to visit an art gallery.
The gallery lost money putting on this exhibition but it was worth it because it was a
terrific show.
